Papyrus, not just a font: a Disease.
Designers today are lacking any motivation for using type as a medium and rather would prefer what looks the part. The font that kills me these days is Papyrus. I see it everywhere. Instead of exploring different typefaces and ways of working them into the image, designers overload the design with shit like Papyrus forcing the organic, rough, humanistic stlye of the type. The worse displays of Papyrus use is when a designer decides to impliment it in the body copy of a publication or website. Papyrus is not at all designed for this. It's illegible and looks like garbage on a page. Can we say display type?
Ok so here are some examples of Papyrus and how apart it is of our daily life. I will let you be the judge but I only enjoy one use of this font and it's even hard admitting that.
This was a button on the iTunes music store. Oh and Brooks & Dun suck.
Serenity is a movie based on some Sci-Fi show.
This is a web template from a website where designers make templates of their own design and submit them to be displayed. You can view others here.
This is a heavy metal bands logo.
